Columbus: OH – A petition to change the name of Columbus to the fictional name of “Flavortown” is gaining more attention than previously thought.

The petition comes amid racial tensions within the US. Many protesters who are speaking out in regards to the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Elijah McClain.

Throughout the past month, all 50 states, as well as 9 other countries, have taken to the streets to protest the unethical treatment of POC .

Well one person thought he would make a cheeky joke as he created a fake petition in order to change the name of Columbus, Ohio to “Flavortown” Ohio.

The name comes from the famous TV show featuring Guy Fieri and his imaginary world of “Flavortown.”.

The issue comes amid Christopher Columbus – the proclaimed “discoverer of the new world.” During his time exploring America’s he enslaved and tortured local inhabitants. Many believe that the foundation of this country was based on racism. Thus, the name of Columbus was under the spotlight. The entire city was named after the European who discovered the new land.

The plan started off as a joke of the creator Tyler Woodbridge. The tongue-in-cheek motion was due to the history of America’s foundation which was built through slavery and oppression.

“Even though it’s my favorite city, I was always a bit ashamed of the name.”

Guy Fieri Of Flavortown Gave His Voice To The Matter

Guy Fieri was asked to speak in regards to this event.

“I don’t know all the details, I’m not behind this, I’m not the one instigating this. Am I flattered? Yes. Do I think that there’s a lot going on and a lot of decisions that need to be made before this happens? Yes. If anything like this were to really come about, of course, I would be there.”
