COLUMBUS, OHIO – After two Olentangy students admitted guilt in court this week, they are facing charges for purposely contaminating their teacher’s food with semen and other bodily fluids.
The Case
The assault happened in May when both boys were 8th graders at Olentangy Hyatts Middle School. The whole incident was recorded in a video that was later posted online on social media.
One of the boys, whose names are not being released to the press, appeared in court on Monday to tell the judge that he got the idea from a Youtube video. Then, the boys remembered they were having a student cooking contest.
“I said, that would be a funny idea, a funny gag. So, I introduced it to my classmates, and they thought it was funny. They laughed. So, we went on with it”, the boy declared.
Then he went on to explain how he brought the semen in a bag to school that day and proceeded to put it in the food moments before they presented it to the class. The victims of the assault were the teachers that had offered to judge the contest.
The Trial
One of the victims, who remains anonymous, recalled the moment she learned about the tainted food that same afternoon. She said she felt violated, completely in shock, and even had to get tested for STDs.
She told the judge in a read statement that she was still suffering from anxiety and PTSD and was having a hard time returning to the classroom. She defined teaching as her “dream job”, but also said that things had changed after the incident.
“They made me fall out of love with teaching. I had lost my empathy for kids and the ability to see the good in them”, she admitted.
The boy, now 15, admitted guilt and was adjudicated a juvenile delinquent. He also took the chance to apologize to his victim in court. “I just want to say that I am truly and deeply sorry for what I’ve done. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t regret what I’ve done”, he said in tears.
The other teenager also admitted to a count of assault, after prosecutors noted that he helped plan the prank and brought a semen bag to school as well.
The Sentence
The judge in charge of the case, Judge David Hejmanowski, sentenced both teens to 30 days in juvenile detention and imposed a series of requirements, including community service, psychological counseling and a written apology to the victim.
Although he didn’t order them to report right away, he said that he could do so at any time and for any reason. And if the boys were to violate any of his requirements the sentence could go up to 90 days in juvenile detention.
The students have also been suspended from school for 10 and 5 days respectively and one of them is also facing an 80-day expulsion following the suspension. The six remaining students charged for the assault are due in court by the end of this week.
